Will the Boston Red Sox trade Jarrod Saltalamacchia?

A couple years ago, the Boston Red Sox finally acquired a long sought out catching prospect in Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Once a top prospect, Salty had lost much of his value after a couple years of bouncing back and forth between the major leagues and the minor leagues and completely losing his ability to catch at one point. The Red Sox reclaimed him and he has been a fairly good part of the Red Sox line-up this season.

Now there is talk that they might trade him.

The idea is to move Salty, call up catching prospect Ryan Lavernway and begin getting younger, but it still is a bit of a shocker. The Sox spent so much time trying to acquire Saltalamacchia and he has finally become a serviceable catcher and probably should have been an all-star this year. In addition, the Boston Red Sox had been talking about trading back-up catcher Kelly Shoppach for quite some time.

On a fairly slow trade deadline day, this certainly would be a shocker of a move by the Boston Red Sox. We’ll break it down if it happens.
